Peel Police say an evacuation near Pearson airport on Monday, July 20 was held after they recovered three Second World War-era devices which were discovered to actually be live explosives.

The explosives had been brought into a fire station at Airport Road on Monday by a man who was looking to dispose of them.

Upon inspection, police reportedly found that the objects were actually live explosives. As a result, they cleared out three businesses near YYZ.

Police initially closed nearby roads at around 4 p.m. before the Explosive Disposal Unit retrieved the devices.

Thankfully, there were no injuries as a result of the incident, although it presumably caused some panic at first. Police confirmed there was no criminal intent behind the explosives being brought in.
