A 14-Year-Old Was Killed In Front Of His Mom Outside An Ontario High School Yesterday
The fatal stabbing occurred outside of Sir Winston Churchill Secondary School in Hamilton.
Two suspects remain at large in connection to a fatal stabbing that happened outside of Sir Winston Churchill Secondary School in Hamilton on Monday, October 7. The Hamilton student stabbed was just 14 years old, and was a student of the school. The boy, who has remained unnamed, was with his mother outside of the school when the incident happened at around 1:30 p.m.
Police say that they have obtained video footage of the incident and are confident that they will track down the remaining two suspects, CBC reports. The two people they are looking for are also believed to be in their early teens. One is female and the other is male.
The suspects, who are already in custody, are aged 14 and 19. The third suspect's age was not released. "There is a relationship between the victim and the suspects," said Det.-Sgt. Steve Bereziuk, although he didn’t comment on the nature of the relationship, 680 News reports.
Police have not found the weapon yet, and urge people in the neighbourhood to check their properties and surroundings for a knife, but not to touch it if located.
A can of pepper spray was discovered near the scene of the crime, and police say it may serve as evidence in the case. Social media evidence will also be collected.
Two of the suspects have been charged with first-degree murder as of this morning.
The police encourage the two outstanding suspects to turn themselves in because they are confident that they will be found anyway. “It’s a complete disregard for human life,” Bereziuk said.
Anyone with dashcam footage or video surveillance footage in the area is encouraged to come forward to police with any information that may be of interest. The school will have support staff on hand to help students cope.
"Our entire community shares in the grief and sadness of having lost a valued and loved student," said Manny Figueiredo, the principal of the school.
This is Hamilton's ninth homicide of the year.
