Finding ways to stay entertained during the COVID-19 outbreak is on people's minds. Staying in to watch movies or TV is pretty much the only option. Yet another mode of entertainment has shut down, as Mirvish theatre closures join the ranks.

In a statement from David Mirvish, it was announced that all of the company's theatres would be closing, halting all productions until April 12. This includes the Princess Of Wales, Ed Mirvish, and Royal Alexandra theatres.

"Regarding performances beyond April 12, we will continue to monitor the situation as it evolves and will update the community on our website and via email," the statement reads.

The affected shows include the long-awaited Canadian tour of Hamilton, in addition to Come From Away, Us/Them, and Summer.

The Boy Friend, another play set to run from March 29 to May 5, has been cancelled entirely. This was due to the show's company hailing from London, with the theatre writing "it is not advisable to have a visiting company from abroad at this time."

Customers who have purchased tickets for shows that fall within the cancellation period have the option to use theit ticket for the same show in the 2020-2021 season, exchange it for an alternate show, or get a full refund.

Anyone who wants to change their ticket can do so through an easy online form, available on the Mirvish website.

"We realize that many of you were looking forward to enjoying great performances, and we apologize for this inconvenience," the letter said.

"For the sake of our entire community, I look forward to life returning to normal as soon as possible."

Mirvish productions join a growing list of cancelled events and entertainment. This includes the entirety of both the NHL and NBA seasons being suspended due to COVID-19.

As of March 14, there are 193 confirmed cases across Canada.
