An ad recently seen at a Nissan Canada location has been removed. A flyer, which showed two people in masks shaking hands, popped up at a car dealership in Newmarket, Ontario. The Nissan Canada ad that showed the two people not properly distancing has prompted the company to apologize.

The photo in question was displayed during an event that the dealership was hosting, Nissan Canada informed Narcity in an email.

"The photo is a publicly-available stock advertising image that one of our dealers chose to use in a flyer for a sales event," director of communications Didier Marsaud wrote.

Since receiving backlash about the conflicting message, the car company confirmed that it had been taken down.

Public health officials across the country have diligently been asking everyone to refrain from shaking hands and to maintain a two-metre distance.

In hindsight, the dealer has stated that it was not their intention to display an unfit image, Marsaud informed Narcity.

"We have contacted the dealership yesterday morning and they had removed it from their store immediately given the conflicting message and inappropriateness of the image; this was not intentional and the dealer has apologized for their actions," the email wrote.

Before the image was pulled, a Twitter user managed to snap a photo and post it online.

"Shaking my head over this shaking of hands #photoshopfail #marketingfail #YouHadOneJob," it says.

Despite the "#marketingfail", Nissan Canada maintains that the dealership has all necessary COVID-19 precautions in place.

"Nissan takes the safety of our customers very seriously and has provided our dealer network with strict guidelines in order to ensure a safe environment in our dealerships," Marsaud wrote.

The location has also made sure that the physical distancing and sanitation have been enforced "in the showroom and service area".

This comes as much of Ontario heads into stage three of reopening.

Starting Friday, gyms, dine-in restaurants, and movie theatres can start opening their doors.
