Belleville Police are reporting a disturbance after an Ontario grocery store assault took place on Sunday.

A 61-year-old man was stopped by police after he reportedly beat a worker with his cane. 

According to police, the man became upset after the worker failed to keep a 6-feet distance between them.

A patron became upset with a store employee because the store employee was within 6 feet of the patron.

He then reportedly struck the employee with the object before being escorted out by the store's manager. 

Officers responding to the call managed to pull over the man shortly after leaving the scene in his vehicle. 

It is uncertain at the moment what charges the patron will face.

Attacks on front-line workers haven't been a rare occurrence since the onset of COVID-19.

Back in April, several employees were spat on during the first wave of the outbreak.
