Guelph Police are asking for the public's help in identifying two residents after an assault was reported on April 1. According to police, an Ontario grocery store clerk was spit on and assaulted after a customer grew impatient while waiting in the checkout line. The two customers were quick to flee the store.

Investigators now say they are looking to speak with two people, a man, and a woman, who were caught leaving the grocery store on Eramosa Road and Stevenson Street North by one of the location’s security cameras.

However, police have not yet identified the individuals as suspects.

“On April 1st, 2020, at 6:45pm, a customer was waiting in the checkout line of a grocery store located near the intersection of Eramosa Road and Stevenson Street North in the City of Guelph," read a statement by Guelph Police.

"They became impatient with the wait and ultimately spit on an adult female clerk, striking her in the left arm and chest. The customer then left the store.”

“The Guelph Police Service is looking to speak with the people in the attached pictures in relation to the incident,” it added.

Police are asking anyone with additional information on the case to reach out to Constable Isaac Cook at (519) 824-1212 ext. 7453 or leave an anonymous tip with Crime Stoppers.

This assault comes after reports of long lines and bare shelves in grocery stores have been spotted across Canada.

A few weeks ago, long lines were reported at a No Frills in Toronto, as customers lined up down the parking lot in attempts to stock up on food.

In order to help protect the safety of some grocery clerks, it was reported last week that plexiglass shields are being installed in grocery stores across Ontario.

The new safety measure aims to help better protect employees from unwanted germs while aiding customers in checking out their groceries.

A Longo's, located in Vaughan, Ontario, shut down last week after one of their staff members tested positive for COVID-19.

The grocery retailer noted that the induvial had worked at the Weston and Rutherford location and is now self-isolating.
