Tickets for Drake's highly anticipated OVO Fest went on sale this Friday and they're not cheap. The Raptors global ambassador had announced the festival’s lineup this Thursday. However, based on the current prices of OVO Fest 2019 tickets, it looks you’ll have to pay an arm and a leg to get in.
According to Ticketmaster.ca, lawn tickets for the festival’s August 5th date, which Drake himself will be headlining, are going for as much as $800 each - and those are the cheap seats. The most expensive tickets available, which seat you in Section 201 Row A, are going for as much $10,000 CAD. Yup, you read that right - you could literally buy a car for the price of prime seating at this year's festival.
Ticket prices for the festival’s August 4th date, sans Drake, are a little cheaper. Lawn tickets are priced at $500 and prime seating caps off at $2,500 a pop. Take a look:
As you can imagine, Drake fans were pretty upset by the prices. Many took to social media to complain about them:
It’s also worth noting that the tickets all appear to be under the official platinum option. According to a statement on Ticketmaster’s website, these tickets are “dynamically priced up and down based on demand. Platinum Tickets are not part of VIP packages - they are tickets only.” Narcity has reached out to Ticketmaster for further comment on this and we will update the story once we hear back.
It’s surprising that these tickets are in such high demand, considering the fact that many fans weren't impressed by the lineup. OVO Fest’s 2019 lineup includes less relevant artists like B2K, Mario, Pretty Ricky, Chingy, amongst other performers whose heyday was almost two decades ago.
It drew comparisons to the recent Millennium Tour which featured many of the same artists. Many fans were quick to point out the similarities:
At this rate, the rapper could be on track to top the high ticket prices set by the Toronto Raptors during the NBA Finals. Hopefully, that doesn’t happen.
