Toronto Police won't be the only force equipped with police body cameras. Peel Police just announced they would adopt the policy, as well.

On Friday, August 21, the Peel Regional Police board passed the motion, which includes a $9 million deal with Axon Canada, the same company that Toronto Police has partnered with.

Peel's mayors, including Mississauga's Bonnie Crombie and Brampton's Patrick Brown, had pushed for the move. Crombie said at Friday's meeting: "We’re going to face a lot of scrutiny, so we have to be as transparent as possible."

The move comes only a few days after Toronto Police Services made the decision to equip their officers with the technology starting next week.

However, the move, particualrly in Toronto, has seen considerable pushback from activists across the province who have been calling to defund the force.

Peel Police Dept. Chief Anthony Odoardi did not give a timeline on when the force will roll out the cameras.
