A Canadian appliance manufacturer has made a hefty donation to the TDSB.

Danby donated 500 new air purifiers to the school board, which will be distributed to schools at higher risk for COVID-19, reports CBC.

The only problem? They're not powerful enough to purify the air in the TDSB's classrooms.

We want to put as many air purifiers in our schools as possible.

The Danby models donated are built to purify an area of up to 188 square feet.

However, the smallest TDSB classroom  is 400 square feet.

Narcity reached out to the TDSB for comment and will update the story once we receive a response.

According to CBC, the TDSB says that approximately half of its schools currently do not have any form of mechanical ventilation.

Many are relying on open windows, which will become more difficult in the coming cold months.

The donated model is similar to the Danby 120 CADR Air Purifier, which can be purchased at Home Depot for $150.
