Allegedly, a fight broke out at the Loblaws at Queen Street West. Two people have been taken to hospital and one man has been taken into custody, according to a tweet by CP24 journalist Kris Pangilinan.
Per the Toronto Star and reports on social media, the weapon was pulled out after a fight in the store.
Jason McCullough, who was on scene at the time, gave his account of events to Narcity.*
"I was in line to the side, perpendicular with the aisles that had like 50 people lined down each of them," McCullough says.
"One aisle in the middle started making a lot of noise and arguing. Then screaming and people started flooding out dropping their groceries and screaming. Someone yelled “he has a gun” and the entire place went into a panic.
He continued: "I opened the storage/freight doors and yelled for people to run in there. We went to the back and I opened the doors to the back exit and ushered people down. I was pretty scared and called my girlfriend then hung up to call the police."
McCullough says that by the time everyone was out of the shop, police had arrived and quickly took the man into custody.
"I believe a few people wrestled him to the ground," he says.
Other shoppers also commented on their fear.
"Was quite an experience trying to walk into Loblaws to hundreds of people stampeding down the escalators yelling 'he has a gun'," reads one tweet commenting on the incident.
"The world is not coming to an end, quit acting like it cuz then it might actually happen."
