Toronto Police have charged a 44-year-old man in connection to a disturbing incident at a local high school. According to police, the man managed to enter North York's St. Joseph Morrow Park Secondary School unnoticed before slipping into the girl's bathroom. Once in the bathroom, the man allegedly waited until a 16-year-old female student walked in, and proceeded to sexually assault her. The Toronto man charged for sexually assaulting a student has been identified as Edison Diamante.
According to police reports, officers responded to an "unknown trouble" call at the school, located near the intersection of Bayview and Cummer Avenues, at around 11:03 AM on Tuesday. The man reportedly barred the student from leaving the bathroom before sexually assaulting her. It was the girl's screams that first alerted staff members to the situation.
Upon hearing the girl's cries for help. staff members immediately rushed to her assistance and called the police. Given the fact that the police were able to detain him upon their arrival, it would appear that staff were able to prevent him from escaping.
Police have identified the man as 44-year-old Edison Diamante. Diamante is now facing several serious charges including, sexual assault and forcible confinement. If convicted of assault Diamante could face a maximum sentence of up to 10 years in prison.
Diamante will appear in court at 1000 Finch Avenue West on Wednesday morning. Anyone with any further details about the case is being encouraged to call the police at 416-808-7474.
