If you're thinking about travelling to Pearson this summer, things will look a little different. Pearson Airport has announced that starting on June 1, multiple new rules will be put in place for those who are travelling through the terminal. Toronto Pearson's COVID-19 rules will require meet-and-greeters to wait outside and face masks to be worn.

In a memo that was confirmed to Narcity, Greater Toronto Airports Authority spokesperson Robin Smith stated that those who are wishing to meet up with their families will have to wait outside starting June 1.

“The safety and security of our passengers and employees is our top priority," read the statement.

The restrictions will also apply to the family and friends of airport workers, who won't be allowed to meet up with them in the building before or after their shift.

There will be some exceptions, such as for people accompanying minors or those with disabilities.

“We're taking a number of steps in collaboration with our partners to prepare for restart and recovery, and we look forward to sharing more details on these initiatives soon,” Smith stated.

So far, there has been no word on how the new measures are being enforced.

The airport has a COVID-19 update page, which outlines other measures being put in place to ensure the safety of their travellers and staff.

Six separate disinfecting measures are taken daily to prevent the spread of the virus.

These include additional hand sanitizer stations, regular cleaning of kiosk stations, and enhanced disinfection of all washrooms.

On top of this, Toronto Pearson states that starting June 1 all passengers must wear a face mask at all times

Travellers will also be asked to exit the airport as soon as they collect their bags after their flight.

Pearson has also announced that they will be holding planes on the tarmac to ensure that there aren't crowds at gates and to help the flow of traffic throughout the terminal.

Signs and announcements will continuously remind travellers to keep their distance in lines and while travelling throughout the airport.
