EARLIER: According to the Toronto Police, a shooting has occurred near Nathan Phillips Square. In a tweet, police stated that there have been reports that a woman was shot. They also stated that people have been seen running from the area following the reported shooting.
Police and EMS are currently on the scene and are treating the woman who was injured. At this time, police stated that two victims have been found and while they both sustain serious injuries, they are not life-threatening.
Bruce Arthur, a columnist with Toronto Star, has been live-tweeting about the shooting. In his first tweet posted at 3:38 PM EST, he states that gunshots were fired at the parade at the back southeast corner of the Toronto square.
“One witness said four shots. Crowd ran. There is a victim down being given medical attention, surrounded by a crowd, and police are clearing people from the area. Speeches are still going on,” reads the tweet.
In a tweet by the Toronto Police, it states that there are two confirmed victims. They also stated that two people are currently in police custody and two firearms have been recovered.
In a tweet just a few moments later, Arthur said that a crowd on the east side was running again and the cops were allegedly yelling “Get down”.
A witness at Eaton Centre told Narcity that the Toronto police are currently chasing the shooter through the square. "They told us to lock the door and get to the back of the store," said the witness. The scary and chaotic scene caused the .
Someone in the comment section of the tweet posted a video of the crowd running. The video was taken from a tall building where you can see an aerial shot of hundreds of people chaotically running.
Not only was there a shooting at the parade, but Toronto Police have confirmed that a stabbing also took place. According to a tweet, the stabbing took place at Eaton Centre Plaza at the entrance of a store. There were reports that three men were stabbed following a fight. None of the people involved were left with life-threatening injuries.
