People Are Accusing Toronto's Cactus Club Cafe Of Enforcing Racist Policies
A local DJ is claiming that the restaurant has a history of discrimination.
Toronto may be a hub of multiculturalism, but unfortunately, the city's efforts to celebrate all cultures and nationalities haven't prevented racial discrimination from rearing its ugly head from time to time. Recently it was one of the city’s hottest hangouts, Toronto’s Cactus Club Cafe, that was facing such accusations.
Cactus Club became the subject of a fiery Twitter thread last week after a local DJ slammed the restaurant for enforcing discriminatory rules. “Cactus Club really canceled their DJs on caribana weekend? Between this and them telling me to “not cater to the caribana crowd” I don’t know how y’all can still eat there,” DJ Big Jacks tweeted on Sunday.
DJ Big Jacks followed up his tweet with a list of accounts from another DJ who reportedly worked at Cactus Club. The tweets quickly gained traction and dozens of replies.
Narcity reached out to both the DJ and Cactus Club for comments on the matter but have yet to hear back.
Even the Toronto Raptors' official DJ weighed in:
Cactus Club currently operates two locations in Toronto. One of the restaurants is located at First Canadian Place and the other at Etobicoke's Sherway Gardens. It’s worth noting that although these allegations are serious, they have not been proven at this time.
