It's always hard being the visiting team. Being on the road means you lack a home advantage, you're tired from travelling, and the local fans simply hate your guts. But Toronto took it a step further last night. A video of fireworks at the St. Regis Toronto hotel, where the Warriors are currently staying, is starting to go viral after one bold Raptors fan set them off in hopes of disturbing the players.
A video on Instagram posted this morning shows someone setting off fireworks outside of the St. Regis in downtown Toronto, where the Golden State Warriors are staying during their stint in Toronto during the NBA Finals.
Considering how much pressure both NBA teams are under in anticipation of Game 1, chances are the Golden State Warriors weren't too thrilled to be woken up in the middle of the night to an impromptu fireworks display.
The video depicts the caption "I did it for the city" as a man wearing a hooded sweatshirt creeps up alongside the hotel, while fireworks erupt in the background. The man then enters his "escape vehicle" and drives away.
Although it isn't exactly clear as to how much harm the fireworks directly caused those visiting the hotel, it is likely that the echoing boom of exploding fireworks would be loud enough to disrupt the peaceful slumber that the Golden State Warriors require to be on their A-game tonight.
Toronto fans are starting to earn a reputation of being less-than-welcoming to the Raptors' opponents in the NBA Finals. For example, when the players on the Golden State Warriors arrived at the St. Regis in Toronto, Toronto fans didn't exactly roll out the red carpet.
Are Toronto fans playing dirty? Maybe. But you really can't blame Toronto Raptors fans for wanting to do everything in their power to ensure that the city's team wins the NBA Championship.
After all, the Raptors have given fans new hope through their triumphant post-season tenure. So if that means resorting to some morally-questionable practices, who are we to judge? All is fair in love and basketball.
