Canada's federal election campaign has been officially launched in recent days, and party leaders and candidates are campaigning hard. But a new question on everyone's lips will likely be who is Charlie Riina? That's because the People's Party of Canada leader Maxime Bernier has hired the Playboy cover girl as his new candidate in Toronto.
Riina, born Ania Krosinska, is the PPC's new candidate in Humber River-Black Creek, a riding near Toronto. She announced her candidacy yesterday via her Instagram account.
The Poland-born model grew up in Canada and attended the University of Toronto. A former Miss Toronto, she became a model for many brands and magazines including Playboy and has made several appearances on the magazine's cover of the magazine since 2011.
She was named Playboy's International Playmate of the Year in 2016.
This isn't her first venture into politics, though. Riina was a candidate for the Trillium Party of Ontario in 2016. In fact, she said her journey as a playmate had allowed her to complete projects to help her community.
She also describes herself as a humanitarian activist. Riina studied criminology and forensic science at the University of Toronto.
Perhaps unsurprisingly, the news has elicited a lot of reactions. Some of her 660,000 subscribers congratulated her while others questioned her party's decision.
Canada's federal election is on Oct. 21, so we only have a few weeks to wait to see whether Riina becomes part of the new parliament.
