Tragedy occurred in Toronto's west end this morning. According to new police reports, a woman was killed by a CP Rail freight train after she was struck on the tracks in the Old Weston Road and Davenport Road area. Metrolinx reported that service on the Barrie GO train line could be delayed for up to two hours as a result of the incident.
Toronto Police revealed at around 8:00 AM on Thursday morning that the woman was pronounced deceased at the scene. The incident is suspected to have occurred at around 7:00 AM this morning.
GO trains will not be able to travel past Downsview during rush hour this morning as investigators continue to survey the scene.
According to Metrolinx, commuters affected by the disruption are welcome to transfer to the TTC at no extra charge. Passengers are being instructed to take the Line 1 subway all the way down to Union Station for the best alternative route.
TTC Communications Specialist Stuart Green says the delayed trains are currently offloading 1000-2000 customers per train onto southbound Line 1 at Downsview Park Station. Customers will most likely experience additional wait times as a result of heavier passenger traffic throughout the morning.
According to CBC, the following trains currently being affected by the delays: Allandale Waterfront GO 5:48 to Union Station 7:33 train which is currently holding south of Downsview GO, the Allandale Waterfront GO 6:03 to Union Station 7:47 train which is holding at Rutherford GO and finally the Allandale Waterfront GO 6:18 Union Station 8:03 train which will hold at Rutherford GO.
