Yorkdale Mall Was Sent Into Lockdown On Friday After An Armed Robbery (VIDEOS)
Four hooded assailants robbed the Rolex store.
An incident in Toronto had Yorkdale Mall in lockdown on Friday afternoon. According to police, four teenage males wearing masks entered the mall with weapons before fleeing through a parking lot. Officers are currently on scene responding.
UPDATE: Toronto Police tweeted at 6:18 p.m. to confirm the hold-and-secure has now been lifted. Officers say the K9 unit was used to track the suspects, and all four are now in custody. No outstanding suspects remain, per police, and business has apparently returned to normal.
EARLIER: A tweet from Toronto Police Operations at 5:03 p.m. warned that the shopping centre was in lockdown after four masked and hooded assailants stormed a store before fleeing.
According to Newstalk1010, the robbery took place at the mall's Rolex store.
Per both police and that report, the extent of any injuries is currently unclear.
Narcity was on scene at Yorkdale at the time of the lockdown, and video that was taken on-site shows the panicked situation.
At 5:11 p.m. ET, police tweeted an update to stress that no bullets were actually fired during the armed robbery, although the weapons were used.
"Yorkdale Plaze is now under Hold n Secure - Info from Yorkdale security: - All stores shut down and sealed - No one will be allowed in - Officers o/s - Officers advise there was no shooting - Weapon used to smash displays," read the follow-up message.
At 5:17 p.m. police informed the public that one suspect had been arrested, but three more were being pursued around the area.
Police subsequently disclosed that this robbery was the third being investigated around the west end of Toronto on Friday.
"Firearms and violence" were used in all three incidents, according to a police tweet. It's suspected that the same four males are involved in all of the robberies.
According to Global News, the first of those calls came in about 3:10 p.m. on Friday at the West Mall Bloor Plaza.
Police said four teenagers robbed the store using handguns before fleeing in a dark pickup truck. A woman in her 70s was reportedly assaulted.
A second call 40 minutes after the first came from Rexdale Commerical Centre Plaza, where four males wearing ski masks assaulted an employee and stole drugs and money.
Global suggests a third call then came in at around 4 p.m. from Elmhurst Plaza reporting a similar incident.
All three of these robberies reportedly took place at pharmacies.
By around 5:40 p.m. at Yorkdale, many stores were beginning to open up again, and by 6:20 p.m., business had apparently returned to normal in the mall.
