With Halloween just around the corner, it seems that all of Canada is getting into the haunting kind of mood. In fact, Royal Canadain Mint is even getting into the Halloween spirit by releasing a new haunted coin that has a ghost appear out of nowhere. The Spooky Canada: HI Ottawa Jail Hostel coin is the perfect spooky coin that you can add to your collection.
The Royal Canadian Mint has just announced that their new haunted coin is now available for purchase as a part of their Spooky Canada collection. The coin features a famous ghost story from the HI Ottawa Jail Hostel, where it is said that a ghost still haunts it today.
The coin, which is available both online and in stores is a more popular coin, with 100,000 coins available for purchase. However, it seems to be getting a lot of attention as almost 400 people have viewed it in the last 24 hours.
In order to see the coin's spooky powers, all you have to do is tilt it side to side to see the two different images. The first photo is of a woman standing outside the jailhouse, yet when you tilt the coin, a ghost quickly appears.
The coin is perfect for a beginner collector, as you can pick one up for yourself for only $29.95.
According to the Royal Canadian Mint's website, the ghost story behind the coin is a terrifying one.
The Ottawa jail was built back in 1862 where it housed up to 150 prisoners at one time. Patrick Whelan, who was hanged for the 1868 assassination of Thomas D'Arcy McGee is said to still haunt the prison to this day.
In fact, the former jail is said to be one of the most haunted buildings in Canada.
Vistors who still visit the building to this day state that a ghost wanders the hallways while reciting the Lord's Prayer, just as Whelan did before he was hung.
