On July 9, 2019, police in Saskatoon were called to an apartment at around 2 AM for the report of a disturbance. According to a police report, a male suspect was in an apartment suite with two other people and a baby at the time. All of a sudden, the man fled with the baby.

One of the people from the suite allegedly chased the man outside and thankfully, eventually regained custody of the child. The suspect then returned back to the same apartment building, where he was able to gain access to a different suite.

The resident inside the suite reported to the police that the suspect was armed with a knife and threatening to harm people. After some time, he left the apartment and tried to access other suites in the hallway before finally chasing the initial male victim who had returned back to the scene.

Saskatoon police were able to locate the suspect nearby. He was injured and bleeding and "acting in an aggressive manner" when he was found.

Police believe that he was under the influence of methamphetamine at the time. Due to his behaviour, police used pepper spray, however, it was not effective.

Additional officers were called in and the man was eventually brought safely into custody. The suspect sustained non-life threatening injuries that he was treated for before going to the hospital.

The 29-year-old man is now facing a number of charges including abduction, uttering threats, resisting arrest, and breach of probation.

This is not the first time that police in Saskatoon have had to deal with a dramatic takedown. Around one month ago, Saskatoon police had to track down a 15-year-old who managed to escape custody by successfully swimming across a large river while handcuffed.
