During an election cycle things seemingly pop out of nowehere. The Justin Trudeau Fidel Castro rumour has long persisted the election cycle and is something people continue to talk about despite there being no actual proof of it. It's captured people's attention.
Back in 2016 a rumour surfaced stating that Justin Trudeau is Castro's son after the Prime Minister commented positively about Castro after he died.
The rumour first cropped up in a Donald Trump subreddit a few days after Trudeau's comments. A user put out a theory that Trudeau was wasn't actually Pierre Trudeau's son but was instead the love child of Castro and Margaret Trudeau.
The user's theory and the rumours that followed were based on the perhaps coincidental similiarties in appearances between Trudeau and Castro and some beliefs about Trudeau's mother's perceived promiscuity.
It seems that every so often people discover or re-discover the pictures associated with this conspiracy theory and spread more rumours about it. Maybe people just love political scandals and drama.
But is there any real stitch of proof in it?
People seem to flock to side-by-side images of Trudeau and Castro to prove that the rumour is true. Even though a picture is worth a thousand words, actual words and scientific evidence are the only things that could actually prove or disprove the theory.
Trudeau was born on December 25, 1971 which is way before his parents ever travelled to Cuba. The reddit user who first brought up this theory seemed to think that the Trudeaus crossed paths with Castro in 1970 meaning that it was entirely possible for Trudeau to be his son. But they didn't actually meet face-to-face until 1976 when the couple travelled to Cuba for the first time.
And according to Global News, experts said that a visit to Cuba earlier than the 1976 would have been basically impossible to go unnoticed.
Though this information doesn't seem to stop conspiracy theorists.
In early 2018 when rumours resurfaced once again, the Canadian government denied the rumours. But Trudeau himself hasn't commented on these rumours and he probably won't ever comment on them.
