Searching for a job can be stressful. Often enough, you never actually know how many other people are applying for the same job as you or which jobs are desperately looking for talent. In a new report, Indeed Canada has listed the most in-demand jobs in Canada right now, to help make your job hunt a little easier.
Brendon Bernard, an Indeed economist has written the report that described the mismatch labor market that is currently present in Canada. He states that throughout the year of 2018 there were a variety of jobs that had too few qualified applicants. Roles in health care and technology often had the fewest applicants per job and employers were desperate to find employees.
However, on the flip side, there were also a variety of jobs that had too many applicants applying for a certain position, making it impossible for those who were handing in their resumes to actually land a job.
Bernard states that this mismatch labor market is actually an issue throughout the nation. A labor market with a high amount of mismatch can actually cause an abundance of job seekers struggling to find a job.
Fortunately, for job hunters and people figuring out what to do with their lives, Bernard uses his report to list the top 10 in-demand jobs for both job seekers and employers and the job postings aren't what you would expect.
Roles in tech, retail and health are often the most in-demand jobs when it comes to employers. A variety of job postings are posted for these categories, but they receive the fewest applicants per post.
The top ten jobs with the fewest applicants per post include registered nurse, retail sales associate, hair stylist, store manager, software engineer, analyst, full stack developer, massage therapist, chauffeur, and assistant store manager.
So, if you are looking for a job, these are some of the fields that you may want to stick too since they are looking for employees.
However, there report also reveals a variety of jobs that have way too many applicants per post. Surprisingly, jobs in customer and food service have a high number of job seekers.
The top ten jobs with the most applicants per post include customer service representative, cashier, laborer, server, customer service associate, bartender, manager, supervisor, owner-operator driver, and team member.
So, when applying for jobs, these might want to be the categories you stay away from considering there are more people looking for jobs in these fields than there are job openings.
