It’s been a busy few months for Tim Hortons and they show no signs of stopping. The latest adventure? Tim Hortons plant-based eggs are now being tested in Canada. After a successful introduction of a number of plant-based products, such as vegetarian sausage patties for breakfast, and Beyond Meat veggie burgers for every other meal, it seems that now it’s plant-based eggs (!) that are heading to a restaurant near you.

Long gone are the days when Tim Hortons was only good for a quick coffee and a donut. Now, Tims has become a fast-food pioneer of vegan snacks, a place where vegetarians can go to enjoy fast food, a holy grail of plant-based treasures just waiting to be discovered!

While their other beyond-meat substitute snacks were pretty impressive, Tim Hortons has really decided to step up their animal-free game, by testing out some egg-free-eggs at a number of their locations. Tims is trialling a substitute egg for breakfast sandwiches, as well as a vegan omelette for those who really want a boujee breakfast-on-the-go!

The entirely vegan egg product will be made by the San Francisco-based food technology company JUST, who confirmed Canada is one of their ‘most requested’ markets. 

In a statement to CNBC, a spokesperson for JUST said: "we’re excited to be able to offer our product at select Tim Hortons locations for this market test."

While vegetarian meat-free patties are pretty close to the real thing, you might be wondering how on earth it is possible to create an egg, without using a chicken. Well, my friends, it appears the secret to imitating the look, taste and texture of eggs is a combination of vegan ingredients, with one key player... Mung beans!

For all the Office fans out there, it appears our dear old friend Creed Bratton was right all along, they're very nutritious indeed! That said, we can only hope the new Tim Hortons snacks come without the ‘old man smell.’ We love ya, Creed!

It seems the massive popularity of their other plant-based options has encouraged the coffee chain to continue to invest in meat alternatives. Tim Hortons spokesperson, Jane Almeida, said in a statement, “We are always listening to our guests and testing a wide variety of potential products in select restaurants across the country."

She continued, "As we continue to test and get feedback, we will consider expanding plant-based options into other menu items.”

The vegan eggs are currently available in some Tim Hortons around Ontario, like in Vaughan and Richmond Hill, but other locations are expected to introduce the products in the coming weeks.

If the success of their other plant-based products is anything to go by, the egg-free eggs will be available country-wide in no time at all! Clucking brilliant!
