Ulta Beauty Won’t Be Coming To Canada This Year Due To COVID-19
The huge expansion plans have been put on hold.
If you’ve been counting down the days until Ulta Beauty launches in Canada, there's bad news ahead. The company’s huge 2020 expansion has been put on hold, as COVID-19 continues to affect the global economy. While we were all pretty excited, it seems it’s going to be a while before we see
Back in 2019, the American beauty company announced plans for a, which involved goals to open several stores across Canada.
According to Retail Insider, 75 new stores were set to open around the world, with several locations in Canada.
"Our first step in becoming a global beauty retailer will be to prepare to launch operations in Canada," a company executive told Yahoo Finance last year.
Ulta Beauty reportedly had intentions to open its first Canadian stores before 2021, and was in talks with “prominent landlords” about opening in malls and high-traffic areas.
However, this may no longer be the case.
Due to theand the subsequent effect on the U.S., Canadian and global economies, the retailer has postponed all of its plans for expansion and has confirmed that things will be put on hold for the time being.
Last month, the retailer took to Instagram to announce that it would be temporarily closing all of its U.S. stores in line with government advice.
In its notice, Ulta Beauty explained, "There is nothing more important than our collective health and safety during this time."
This comes as similar moves have been made by governments across Canada, who have closed allto members of the public.
If and when the huge beauty retailer does eventually land in Canada, it’s expected to be a strong competitor against stores like Sephora and Shoppers Drug Mart, as well as department stores like Hudson’s Bay and Nordstrom.
While its plans have been postponed for now, we can still get excited at the prospect oflanding in Canada eventually.
One day, beauty lovers, one day!
