WhatsApp Won't Work On Millions Of Phones Anymore & You May Need To Buy A New One
Update your operating system!
Has your WhatsApp stopped working but there aren't any outages reported? There's a very simple reason for that — the problem is your phone! WhatsApp is not working on millions of phones any more thanks to one feature, but the good news is you can fix it and bring the chatting app back to life.
If you don't have a newer iPhone or Android or you simply just don't update your operating system regularly, you might run into trouble with the latest Whatsapp update.
The latest change means that millions of people with older operating systems won't be able to use the app anymore since it no longer supports them.
The company announced around New Year's, that people would not be able to continue using their app if their phones had an older operating system, and on February 1 those changes came into effect.
For iPhone users, iOS 8 or earlier is no longer supported by the app and for Android users, the same goes for 2.3.7 and older.
Prior to this month, people with these systems have been unable to create new accounts or re-verify existing ones, but they could still use the app.
That's not the case anymore.
"This was a tough decision for us to make, but the right one in order to give people better ways to keep in touch with friends, family, and loved ones using WhatsApp," the company said in a statement.
This issue can be fixed by simply updating your phone if you've been ignoring those pesky software update notifications.
However, older iPhones aren't compatible with newer operating systems so people who really love WhatsApp might have to shell out some cash and get a new phone to use the app again.
At the end of 2016, the messaging system stopped supporting its app on BlackBerry devices, some Nokia phones and Windows Phone 7.
"While these mobile devices have been an important part of our story, they don't offer the kind of capabilities we need to expand our app's features in the future," the company said.
If you're not sure how old the operating system on your phone is, be sure to check its settings now to find out if you can still use WhatsApp.
For people who don't want to update their system or get a whole new phone, they might just have to use whatever messaging system comes with their phone and say goodbye to WhatsApp.
