Way to go Canada! Major travel publication Travel+Leisure has named Canada 'the destination of the year' in their recent feature.
The selection was based on data from polls conducted on travel agents, arrival statistics and cultural relevance. The magazine concluded that in 2017, travellers around the world were constantly buzzing about Canada, and so it was the clear cut pick for destination of the year.
"Our neighbor to the north sparked our imagination this year," reads the opening statement of the article. Canada was described as "something of a precocious younger sibling, a preternaturally cheerful and polite nation where everyone plays hockey and rocks out to Bryan Adams between visits to the local Tim Horton's" (in their defense, they did acknowledge that they were pretty stuck on stereotypes).
It also applauds Canadians for how they became more united thanks to the Canada 150 celebrations, how they're leading in innovation, biotech and climate change, and how they're focusing their resources on increasing connectivity across the country (even to the Arctic).
