In hopes of being completely transparent, 78-year-old Trebek announced on his TV show that he does in fact, have cancer. Instead of allowing the news to be spread from other sources, Trebek said that he was fighting stage 4 pancreatic cancer on the air.

Trebek was born in Canada and is known for being a television host in both the United States and his home country. Even though he is a native Canadian, he became a "naturalized" United States citizen in 1998.

Born in Sudbury, Ontario, Trebek is a light and inspiration to many Canadians. Not only is Trebek a game show host, but also a TV personality and an actor. Trebek also attended university at the University of Ottawa.

He started off his official speech by saying that he owed it to Jeopardy! fans to be honest and transparent with what he was going through. He says that even though he is dealing with aggressive stage 4 cancer, he is going to try his best to fight through the illness.

As said in the video, Trebek intends to beat cancer and won't let it get the best of him. He notes that even though the survival rate of this type of diagnosis is low, he will try his best to fight through it. He also jokes that he is contractually obligated to host 3 more years of Jeopardy! so he can't break that promise.

"Hi everyone, I have some news to share with all of you and it’s in keeping with my longtime policy of being open and transparent with our Jeopardy! fan base. I also wanted to prevent you from reading or hearing some overblown or inaccurate reports regarding my health. So therefore, I wanted to be the one to pass along this information.

Now, just like 50,000 other people in the United States each year, this week I was diagnosed with stage 4 pancreatic cancer. Now normally, the prognosis for this is not very encouraging, but I’m going to fight this, and I’m going to keep working. And with the love and support of my family and friends and with the help of your prayers also, I plan to beat the low survival rate statistics for this disease. Truth told, I have to! Because under the terms of my contract, I have to host Jeopardy! for three more years! So help me. Keep the faith and we’ll win. We’ll get it done. Thank you."
