It's no secret that the world is obsessed with Drake but here in his home country of Canada, that obsession goes to the next level. Spotify recently released their streaming number from 2018 and Drake came out on top.
In Canada alone one song, "God's Plan" was streamed over 55 million times in the past year - 55,763,442 to be exact. That's impressive enough on its own, but even more so when you consider one thing. There aren't actually 55 million people in Canada.
The population of Canada is only actually 36.71 million people. The fact that Drake's hit single was streamed 55 million times in Canada means that the one song had more streams than there are people living in Canada.
That means if every single person in Canada listened to "God's Plan" once, they still wouldn't even come close to the number of streams the song got here.
If this proves anything besides the fact that Canada's population is shockingly small, it proves that we truly are completely obsessed with Drake. Not only was "God's Plan" the most streamed song of the year in Canada, but Drake was also the most streamed artist in all of Canada and specifically in Toronto too.
As for how other artists stack up against Drake, it's not even close. The next closest song streamed by Canadians was "Psycho feat. Ty Dolla $ign" and even it only had 36 million streams, a small number compared to Drake's over 55 million streams.
These are the most popular songs on Spotify in Canada, and the number of streams they accumulated from Canadian listeners to date:
To be fair we aren't the only ones in the world who are obsessed with the 6ix God. Spotify also reported that globally Drake had been streamed 8.5 billion times this year, making him the most streamed artist of 2018 and probably ever.
