Apparently, Doritos has decided that there is such a big difference between the way men and women eat chips that they had to create a female version of their well known and beloved snack food. Nope, we are definitely not joking and yes, this sounds like a title from the 1920's.
This all started when the global chief of PepsiCo found that based on a research study they conducted, that women were less likely to eat chips. Why exactly? Apparently because they don't like to crunch loudly, and don't want to have to lick their fingers after eating them.
CEO of PepsiCo Indra Nooyi spoke with Freakonomics radio, saying that according to their research, women "don't like to crunch too loudly in public." Also noting that "as you watch a lot of the young guys eat the chips, they love their Doritos, and they lick their fingers with great glee."
The new "lady-friendly" version of the chip is slated to be released soon and "boasts" several different characteristics in comparison to the classic version of the snack. For starters, the chips will come in a different kind of packaging that is smaller so that 'ladies can fit them in their handbags'. On top of that Doritos lovers can expect "low-crunch with less residue" for the lady-friendly version of the snack.
It's ironic that in a time when women are finally feeling empowered to speak up, that Doritos is promoting a product that encourages them to be quieter.
