October 17th - the official legalization date of recreational marijuana in Canada - is fast approaching. The cannabis industry is soaring to new heights, and Canadian job seekers are already doubling down on the endless career opportunities that legalization will bring.
Marijuana industry-related job searches are on the rise in Canada, and so are the job postings. According to Indeed, cannabis-related keyword searches were four times higher last month compared to the year before.
At the same time, cannabis jobs are popping up three times more frequently than the same time last year. The jobs vary across all aspects of the industry, from tending to the plants to customer service and sales.
According to CP24, cannabis-related job postings skyrocketed by 50 percent between April and May of this year, around the time that legalization was officially announced.
The report also makes note that the majority of the job postings are within Ontario, one of Canada's biggest destinations for major marijuana headquarters and facilities.
According to Indeed, here are some of the top cannabis positions that Canadians are getting hired for right now:
- Growers and "Budtenders"
- Quality Assurance Associates
- Production/Processing Assistants
- Facilities/Maintenance Technicians
- Patient Educators (Medical Cannabis)
- Shippers and Receivers
- Executive Assistants
With legalization around the corner, the variety of cannabis-related jobs in Canada is projected to keep growing.
