IKEA Canada is joining the effort to integrate refugees into local communities by providing them with meaningful job opportunities. IKEA Canada has launched a brand new refugee employment program, which will provide work to hundreds of refugees from coast to coast. The jobs will be at IKEA's many stores in Canada and their operations across the country.
IKEA Canada says that not only will refugees benefit from career opportunities and job training, but they'll also boost IKEA's vision to become an even more "diverse and inclusive work environment where individual differences are celebrated."
Over the next three years, IKEA Canada will employ 250 refugees. The company is partnering with 18 local agencies who will connect and recruit employment-seeking refugees.
The IKEA locations that will be accepting refugee candidates include Coquitlam, Vancouver, Winnipeg, Edmonton, Calgary, Burlington, Ottawa, North York, Vaughan, Montreal, Quebec City and Halifax.
The launch of IKEA Canada's new program comes at the same time as their 2019 recognition on Forbes Magazine's Best Employers in Canada list. IKEA Canada has landed a spot on the coveted list for the fourth year in a row. Their placement is now at #45, up from #70 the year before.
IKEA offers a range of really great incentives and perks to its Canadian employees. Their benefits program includes wellness credits to use towards gym memberships, equipment and classes. They provide a minimum hour guarantee to shift employees and post schedules a month in advance.
