The Government of Canada announced a new initiative to benefit young Canadians today. The first-ever Canada Youth Summit will be taking place in Ottawa next month and Justin Trudeau is inviting 300 Canadians under 24 years old to join. Canadians from all every province and territory of the country are being asked to participate.

The prime minister made the announcement today on April 2 in a news release. 300 young Canadians from every province and territory across the country are being invited to meet at the Summit. It will be held next month on May 2 and 3 in Canada's capital city, Ottawa, at Carleton University. 

The Summit will provide an opportunity for young Canadians to "discuss issues that matter to them, from protecting our environment and fighting climate change, to supporting good jobs and service opportunities, to building more equal and inclusive communities," according to the news release.

The Government of Canada hopes this new summit will serve as an opportunity to grow, challenge and motivate the youth of Canada as they find innovate ways of positively impacting both their local communities and country. 

"Young Canadians are shaping a better future for all of us. You have deep compassion and big ideas about how to tackle the greatest challenges we face – and our government works hard every day to make sure you have the opportunities you need to make your voices heard," says Justin Trudeau in the statement.

"I look forward to connecting with all of you during our first-ever Canada Youth Summit to continue these important conversations, and raise the bar on what we can achieve together."

All Canadians aged 18 to 24 are now invited by the federal government to participate in the Youth Video Challenge if they would like to be a part of this new Summit.

You can enter to win a free trip to the new Summit "by posting a video on social media using the hashtag #InspiredToServe, capturing what service means to them and how it benefits their community, and submitting an online application."

Beside the open call, several young Canadians have already been invited by the federal government to attend, due to their work on Canada's Youth Policy or for serving at various organizations that help youth across the nation, says the news release.
