Weed beer has been something talked about ever since it became clear that the federal government was going to legalize marijuana.
And now that they’ve sent an official date for it to be sold in stores companies, and even colleges, have started working on making the drink a real thing.
Mainly it’s been limited to smaller groups though but beer giant Molson is now throwing its hat in the ring to create the drink.
Molson has partnered with The Hydropothecary Corporation (HEXO) to create a marijuana infused beverage for adults in Canada.
The product that the two companies create won’t be legal until at least 2019 though, as the regulations around edibles and related products will not be released until next year at the earliest.
Molson are incredibly eager to begin work as soon as possible though.
“We are excited to create a separate new venture with a trusted partner that will be a market leader in offering Canadian consumers new experiences with quality, reliable and consistent non-alcoholic, cannabis-infused beverages,” said Molson Coors Canada president and CEO Frederic Landtmeters.
“We are excited about this partnership with Molson Coors Canada … as we embark on the journey of building a brand new market,” added HEXO CEO and co-founder Sebastien St-Louis.
HEXO currently has more than 300,000 square feet to work on the new drink with and is getting an expansion more than three times that size to be completed by the end of the year.
So these two are super serious when it comes to making a quality product.
Don’t worry beer drinkers who aren’t interested in partaking in what Molson and HEXO create, the company will remain a beer business at its core, says Landtmeters.
