126 People Across Canada Have Gotten Violently Ill After Eating B.C. Oysters
Doesn't sound fun.
No one likes being sick right? As much as you don’t want to go to work or school each day you’d rather do that than have to lie at home feeling absolutely rotten for days at a time.
But there’s a bug going around this country right now that is making lots of people extremely sick and it seems to have been caused by them eating a specific region of oysters.
And the worst part is that it’s not just standard food poisoning, it’s contagious. So what exactly is this that’s making people feel so darn miserable?
Apparently the cause is B.C. oysters. So far 126 people have gotten seriously sick with what’s called Norovirus after eating them.
And it’s affecting people all across Canada.
Of those diagnosed with Norovirus, 25 have been in Ontario, 9 have come from Alberta, and 92 are from B.C., so nowhere is really safe it seems.
What happens if you eat one of these bad oysters?
Most people report having symptoms such as nausea, vomiting, diarrhea and stomach cramps, but others can include a fever, chills and aches.
Apparently this lasts for about 2 days. So yeah, not fun.
And it seems that Norovirus can be spread from person to person so even if you didn’t eat one of these oysters you could still get it from someone who has.
The virus can live on surfaces for months, so nothing is safe.
The best thing you can do though right now is to avoid eating oysters you know came from B.C. recently.
