Snapchat Is Under Fire After Making Fun Of Chris Brown's Attack On Rihanna
Wow, that's offensive.
Snapchat is debatably the biggest social media app available, and with such greatness comes great responsibility. In the past, Snapchat has made waves with users after creating controversial face filters, namely the Bob Marley one that gave users a darker skin tone. Oh, and we're still upset about Snapchat changing their design. Snapchat is under fire AGAIN, but this time it has to do with our queen, RiRi.
Everyone knows that Rihanna and Chris Brown were in a very up-and-down tumultuous relationship years ago. Stories surfaced that Chris Brown had been assaulting Rihanna during their relationship which ultimately ended their romance. Well, this subject has always been sensitive, to say the least.
As we all know, Snapchat frequently incorporates ads that include games and quizzes on their app. A recent ad for its "Would You Rather?" game completely offended Rihanna fans. The game asked, "Would you rather: Slap Rihanna or Punch Chris Brown?" Considering the celebs abusive past, Snapchat users are furious over this insensitive game. Snapchat was completely making light of a very serious situation.
Snapchat formally responded by saying, "The advert was reviewed and approved in error, as it violates our advertising guidelines." The spokesperson went on to say, "We immediately removed the ad last weekend, once we became aware. We are sorry that this happened".
Well, it seems that it's too late for apologies. The controversial advert has gone viral on Twitter and throughout social media. Fans are not happy that Snapchat would let something this offensive "slip through the cracks".
