The LCBO Is Extending Their Hours To Compete With Cannabis Stores In Ontario
The extended hours mirror those of private cannabis retailers.
There's been a major change at the LCBO, Ontario's official retailer for alcohol. With more information coming out about Ontario's cannabis stores today, the LCBO has made a major change to their operating hours in order to compete with them.

The Ontario government announced today that the liquor retailer will officially be extending it's hours until 11:00 PM, a difference of at least two hours in most places. The store will also change its opening hours until 9:00 AM, since many stores currently open at 10:00 AM.
The new hours correspond with the hours that have been announced for the cannabis retail stores that will open in Ontario in April 2019. There the operating hours will be from 9:00 AM to 11:00 PM. At the LCBO though they aren't expected to change quite yet.
Since the decision was made to align with provincial cannabis stores, the expanded hours aren't expected to go into effect until April 2019, when licensed pot shops will open their doors in Ontario for the first time.
The new regulations for cannabis stores were released today, ahead of the announcement from the LCBO. The regulations allow stand-alone shops to operate any day between 9:00 AM and 11:00 PM. The stores will also have to be 150 meters away from schools and anyone under 19 isn't allowed in.
According to the government, the LCBO's response to these regulations is in order to increase the alcohol retailers flexibility and allow them to better meet the demands of the market.
Right now, it is unknown whether all LCBO locations will be mandated to follow these hours. The LCBO says more details will be made known after an official announcement from Doug Ford today.
