There's A New Presto App That Lets You Automatically Re-Load Your Card From Your Phone

There's a brand new Presto app that lets you automatically re-load your card from your phone and it's a complete game-changer.

There's nothing worse than rushing to the train or subway in the morning only to find that when you get there you don't have enough funds on your Presto card for the trip. Often this meant missing your train while you wait to load your Presto at one of those very slow machines. Those days are behind us now, though. There's a brand new Presto app that lets you automatically re-load your card from your phone and it's a complete game-changer.

The new app, which has been officially launched on both iPhone and Android, has multiple different functions. The app lets you manage up to 10 different cards. It also lets you view your balance, add transit passes, and re-load your Presto card without having to navigate through the Presto website. You can also set-up notifications for when your balance is running low.

There is an added bonus function for Android users. Normally when you add funds to your card online or even through the app, it will take 24 hours for them to go onto your card. But for people on Android, they can now add those funds automatically. Through the app, all you have to do is hold your card against your phone and the funds will automatically deposit through NFC.

This is a major game-changer for anyone who has missed a train while waiting to re-load their Presto card. Android users with NFC enabled devices can update their balance from anywhere as long as they are connected to the internet.

Another function unique to Android users is that they can also check their balance on the go by holding their card against their phone.

Unfortunately, this isn't available on the iOS version of the app, but that's not Presto's fault. Apple has made it so that the NFC readers on their phones are restricted.

The reason for the restrictions is because Apple doesn't want other apps competing with Apple Pay, which is the only function on iPhone that can use their NFC readers. As of right now, those restrictions apply to the new Presto app too.

The app is now available on both platforms but is still being developed to add even more features. One feature that Presto users are hoping will come soon is a built-in reader that will allow people to completely replace their Presto cards, and just tap their phones instead.
