A new video game called "Active Shooter" is set to release on June 6th and it's garnering a lot of negative attention. The game allows players to simulate a school shooting. We literally can't believe this.
This is how the game is described online, "Pick your role, gear up and fight or destroy! Be the good guy or the bad guy. The choice is yours. Only in "Active Shooter" you will be able to pick the role of an Elite S.W.A.T member or the actual shooter. Lead your team, extract civilians and neutralize the shooter."
Even though the description says that you can play either role, most of the demo on the website shows the perspective of a school shooter. The video is very disturbing, showing a shooter running through halls and classrooms killing civilians and police.
The video game is receiving tons of backlash. Considering the increasing amount of school shootings in the United States, this game was definitely made in poor taste.
There have already been 22 school shootings in the United States in 2018, the Santa Fe shooting being the most recent. The demographic for these video games are typically young boys in high school and people are concerned that this will definitely prompt more violence and potentially more shootings.
There is a petition circulating on the internet demanding to ban the game. It currently has over 20,000 signatures.
