Tim Hortons Is Officially Winning Back Canadians As One Of The Most Influential Brands

Tim Hortons is officially back as one of Canada's most influential brands after falling from grace over the past few years.

After a year of attempting to win Canadians over, Tim Hortons is officially back as one of Canada's most influential brands. In a surprising comeback, the Canadian chain rose six spots in the annual rankings to reclaim their title as one of the most influential brands in all of Canada. 

This comes after the restaurant was booted off the list last year, a first in five years. Tim Hortons had fallen out of favour among Canadians over the past couple of years for several reasons. First, the company was bought out by Burger King, making it an American company. Then there was the most recent controversy between the company and franchisees over minimum wage increases.

On top of all that some Canadians believe that the quality of Tim Hortons' food has gone down while their prices continue to go up. In fact, hating on Tims became a regular occurrence online for many Canadians. 

Put that all together and Tim Hortons lost its place as one of Canada's most influential brands. All that changed at the end of 2018 however, when Tim Hortons revealed they had hired a new chief corporate officer, were launching a $700 million project to improve the stores, and that sales were up.

Along with Tim Hortons rising sales, their national ranking rose as well and now on the latest list of most influential brands they are officially back in the top 10. 

That being said they have some work to do still. Though they are back on the list, they are only in 10th, meaning their position as one of the most influential brands is still in jeopardy. In previous years, Tims has ranked in ninth, eighth, and even in third place back in 2014. 

The list is put out every year by Ipsos, a company who regularly does market studies and polls to get an idea about what Canadian consumers want and are thinking. 

This year almost of top companies are tech giants and online services. In order, they are:  

  • Google
  • Amazon
  • Apple
  • Facebook 
  • Microsoft
  • Youtube
  • Visa
  • Netflix
  • Walmart
  • Tim Hortons

Not only did Tim Hortons make a triumphant return to this year's list, but they are also the only "Canadian" company there. While Tims parent company is based in  Brazil, the headquarters for Tim Hortons is still located in Oakville, Ontario.
