If you've recently lost your job and are struggling to keep up with your lease, this local plan might help. Anaheim's rental assistance program will be giving out thousands of checks up to $2,100 for either back, current, and future rent payments. All you have to do is meet the specific requirements and file your application by June 5, 2020.

In response to the novel coronavirus, the city of Anaheim's rental assistance program will help those who have deferred rent payments since April 2020.

According to the program's fact sheet, $3 million will be used to help an estimated 1,400 households who are struggling to make ends meet.

Those who are eligible include renters who have lost their job or work hours due to the global health crisis, those who live in an Anaheim rental that qualifies, and those who meet the income and rent cost requirements.

If you are already receiving state, federal, or nonprofit assistance for your rent or are living in a temporary residence such as a hotel or motel, you can't apply to this particular emergency program.

You'll have until June 5, 2020, at 5 p.m. to submit an application, and those who are chosen are determined on a first-come-first-serve basis.

Your maximum income must be the same or below the following amounts:

  • $71,750 for a household of one
  • $82,000 for two
  • $92,250 for three
  • $102,450 for four
  • $110,650 for five
  • $118,850 for six
  • $127,050 for seven
  • $135,250 for eight

When you send in your application, you'll also need specific documentation such as photo IDs for everyone over the age of 18 in the household.

This includes driver licenses, passports, visas, and other government cards.

You'll also need a copy of a recent utility bill, a copy of your lease, your landlord's contact information, past rent documents, your proof of income such as pay stubs for the last two months, and proof of assets for the last two months.

There is one exception for people who want to be considered and approved for this additional funding and it's "in cases of extreme need."

If you are approved for this assistance program, funding will be provided starting in July 2020.
