The city of Sarasota is finally moving to address the looming problem of sea level rise.

State Republican Senator Joe Gruters announced that the city will receive a grant to help study how to keep the rising Gulf of Mexico at bay.

$125,000

Grant money Sarasota will receive

The grant money will help Sarasota, and the county at large, develop a plan as to how to contain the slowly rising water.

The plan is known as a "resilience plan," in which many counties in South Florida have already implemented.

Sarasota County has over 35 miles of beachfront to guard from sinking into the Gulf.
