The start of hurricane season saw a tax-free holiday for Florida, and this weekend will give Floridians another chance to save big, this time on back-to-school supplies.

The holiday will start Friday, August 7 and last through Sunday, August 9, during which shoppers can expect to avoid paying taxes on clothing, footwear, and some accessories at less than $60 per item, school supplies starting at $15 or less per item, and even the first $1000 of a sales price on personal computers.

I don’t think the Legislature knew at the time that it was going to be as big of a deal as it is, but it’s definitely going to help a lot of families.

Scott Shalley, Florida Retail Federation President

Exclusions to the tax holiday include clothing selling for more than $60, school supplies selling for more than $15, computers or computer accessories for commercial purposes, rentals and repairs, or eligible items found in theme parks, among a few others.

According to FOX 35, a bill was passed in March to include computer equipment along with the tax breaks on clothes and school supplies.

This is the perfect time to stock up on DIY goodies, plus any accessories and clothes you’ve been holding out for!
