If you are from the Athens area, you might have passed a few artists here and there on game days and admired their work. One specific artist that stands out from the rest was a victim of a heinous crime last week and many of his art supplies and money were stolen from him. The community has come together to help a fellow Georgian in need and it isn't your typical Atlanta local news

Michael Davenport is not your typical artist. He has no hands and uses his mouth to hold a paintbrush to create his masterpieces. When you pass him on Atlanta Highway in Athens, you can't help but stop and stare in awe.

Being in Athens, his artwork is mainly UGA inspired. It's hard to pass him and not pick up one of his pieces because they are truly one-of-a-kind.

"WOW! More than $7,000 already! Can we help Michael and reach the $10,000 goal? He says the community & @UGAAthletics gives him the strength and courage to keep painting, even though he's scared being out at night since he was assaulted &robbed @FOX5Atlanta," explains this post.

After the community and surrounding cities heard about this tragedy, people knew they had to do something. Fox 5 Atlanta ran this story and has such an uproar of people wanting to help. The Budget Host Inn started a GoFundMe page for Davenport and the reactions have been insane.

"This is absolutely outrageous! I'm stopping by @Academy on Atlanta Highway next time I'm home in @VisitAthensGA to help re-fill Michael Davenport's donation box. Hope you will join me. Together, we can make this right," states this post.

As of today, January 23, 2020, just over $24,000 has been raised. This will help Davenport with living expenses, new art supplies and just everyday life needs.

"Unbelievable show of support. He is overwhelmed with emotion about how much love is out there. This could totally change his situation all around. Would love nothing more to see him have a store where he wasn’t painting in the cold/heat, housing, transportation," says this user.

If you would like to donate, you can go to his GoFundMe page, or you can donate in person when he's painting in the parking lot of Academy Sports at 3505 Atlanta Hwy. in Athens, Olive Garden at 3666 Atlanta Hwy. in Athens or Papa John's at 3620 Atlanta Hwy. in Athens.
