You Can Apply To Get Up To 3 Months Of Your Rent Paid In Las Vegas
Applications are being accepted until July 31, 2020.
If you're struggling to pay your rent or mortgages in the last few months, there might be a chance to solve that problem. The Las Vegas Housing Assistance Program is offering residents financial housing aid for rent or past due payments. You can get up to three months of assistance under the new plan.
The City Of Las Vegas posted an announcement on Twitter July 1, which read: "We are offering a new, temporary grant program to provide short-term assistance to city residents experiencing housing insecurity."
As a response toshutdowns, the city has created a "bailout" for those struggling to make payments on their residences.
You can apply for the program until July 31, 2020, but the City said that not everyone would qualify. Documentation, including paystubs and other paperwork, will be required if your application is approved.
While applications are open until the end of July, approvals will depend on the availability of funds from the grant as well.
If an applicant is approved, their money will "be paid directly to the landlord or mortgage company on behalf of eligible program participants," the website explains.
Once you fill out a pre-application form, it can take up to two weeks to receive a decision stating whether you're eligible.
You will be contacted if you are approved and then sent another application for the actual program.
There are several qualifications you must meet to apply, including proof of hardship, a delinquency notice from the landlord, and proof you're a Las Vegas resident.
You must also be 18 years or older.
Depending on your household size, you must sit below a charted yearly income limit.
During a video update posted on the city's Twitter page, spokesperson Arcelia Barajas explained that the program was put in place to help "prevent residents from being evicted."
