UPDATE July 26th 10:30 PDT:
TransLink just announced that Vancouver-born actor, Seth Rogen will be the official new voice of the SkyTrains running through Metro Vancouver. He offered to voice the SkyTrain stops for free! According to the Vancouver Sun, you'll hear Seth Rogen's announcements starting next week.
It was announced earlier this week that Vancouver's transit system was going to play the "Shawshank Redemption" actor's voice when announcing SkyTrain stops along Vancouver's busy transit routes.
After news broke that Morgan Freeman was accused of sexually harassing eight women over the past several years on the sets of his movies, Translink announced that they would be pausing the records as of now.
According to The Vancouver Sun, early this morning Translink announced that they would be stopping the recordings in this statement.
"In light of information we've learned through news stories this morning of serious allegations against actor Morgan Freeman, Translink has decided to pause his voice announcements as part of a VISA ad campaign on the transit system. We will be in touch with VISA to discuss further."
Although the idea was definitely a great marketing strategy, now that the A-list actor has been accused of sexual misconduct, it's definitely a good time to pull out of this controversial ad campaign.
Translink hasn't announced if they are stopping the ad campaign altogether, but they are definitely pausing it for the time being.
But, according to Twitter, Seth Rogen has officially thrown his hat into the ring as Freeman's replacement.
Yo if they need a replacement now let me know.— Seth Rogen (@Sethrogen) May 24, 2018
Seth offered to replace Freeman as the voice narrating Vancouver's SkyTrain stops. As you may know, Seth was born and raised in Vancouver, BC.
Thanks for the offer Seth. Let's DM and talk. ^rw— TransLink BC (@TransLink) May 24, 2018
SkyTrain even responded by saying, "Thanks for the offer Seth. Let's DM and talk."
