Toronto's Ripley's Aquarium got some interesting media attention yesterday after a hiccup in their jazz night event over the weekend resulted in a full-grown man diving into one of the shark tanks - naked. Usually, in these kinds of cases where a police investigation starts, we don't get to hear too much more on the situation, but this story truly is the gift that keeps on giving.
It was initially reported that the man had only visited the aquarium that day and got inebriated off of Ripley's cash bar at the event. But, it turns out that the now identified 37-year-old man was causing havoc around other Toronto tourist spots before taking a dip in the shark tank.
Around 8 PM on Friday night, the police had been called over for a reported assault involving the suspect outside of Medieval Times, a family-friendly dinner theatre featuring medieval-style performances. Medieval Times is another popular tourist destination just down the road from Ripley's Aquarium.
According to police, the man was in Medieval Times when he "became unruly and was asked by security to leave." He was eventually escorted out of the building after refusing to go outside.
From there, a 34-year-old man was outside the Medieval Times venue smoking a cigarette when he was suddenly randomly attacked. After suffering two black eyes and a broken tooth, the man had to be taken to the hospital. According to investigators, they believe that the man who attacked the 34-year-old was the same one who dove in the Ripley's tank around 10:30 PM that same night.
Footage from inside Ripley's shows the suspect arriving at the aquarium to buy a ticket at around 10 PM before stripping down and diving into the tank. With even more photos of the man surfacing, it won't take long for the police to find him. As of now, Ripley's has said they are "willing to press charges if the man is found" according to CP24.
