Ford Says Social Gatherings Are Still A No-Go In Ontario But He Feels Our Pain

In case you thought otherwise, hanging with your buddies is still a no-go in Ontario. Ford clarified Ontario's social gathering rules on Thursday and reminded the public to hold off on visits with friends and family. He said that these restrictions will remain in place for the foreseeable future.
Ford was questioned about why residents are allowed to shop in large groups while social gatherings are still off-limits.
"I understand the pain that you're going through. I just ask, just hang there in just a little bit longer, and we will get through it," Ford responded.
The premier recently admitted that he broke the rules himself by having his daughters visit his home on Mother's Day weekend, a decision that he "got in trouble for."
"I know I had one of my daughters over too, and I got in trouble for that, but for months we never saw them, Ford said.
Health Minister Christine Elliott is also urging residents to remain in their social distancing bubbles, even as the economy begins to reopen.
"To ensure these early steps are a success, its never been more important for the public to adheres to public health guidelines including avoiding contact with others outside of your household and maintaining at least two metres between yourself and others," Elliott said.
"Where physical distancing is a challenge, please wear a face covering of a cloth mask to help stop the spread protect against an increase in new cases," she continued.
"By taking incremental by continuing to follow public health measures, we can assure the safe start to reopening the province."
Meanwhile, a handful of recreational establishments have been given the green light to reopen in the province.
Parks, campgrounds, marinas, boat launches and golf courses can officially open up again as of this weekend. Street-facing stores can also resume business, with distancing measures in place.
Ford announced that "stage one" of Ontario's three-phase recovery plan will officially begin on Tuesday, May 19.
