Between melting winter snow and April showers, spring is probably the best time for chasing waterfalls. If you want to see them at their water-fullest, that is. So, if you’re already planning out your spring day trips, you need to add this stunning Ontario waterfall to the list. Located in Owen Sound’s Indian Falls Conservation Area, this gorgeous cascading water is just a short hike away.
Starting at the conservation area’s washrooms, a short 0.8 km trail will lead you to the falls, which stand 15 metres high.
Talk about a small walk with a big payoff!
But don’t let the length fool you, as the path is riddled with rocky terrain and steep inclines making it more of a difficult hike.
The trail can be especially tough to navigate in the spring when things tend to be muddier than usual, so make sure you have the proper footwear.
At roughly three hours away from Toronto, this gorgeous waterfall, which will reopen this May 2020, is an ideal day trip for you and your besties.
And if you want to make it a multi-day adventure, the amazing Sauble Beach is only about a 20-minute drive from the conservation area.
According to the conservation area’s website, the waterfall was formed as a result of eroding soft Queenston shale beneath hard Manitoulin dolomite, which is similar to how Niagara Falls was formed.
And while Indian Falls might be less mighty than that iconic landmark, it’s definitely a contender in the beauty stakes, if you ask us.
The trail and waterfall are currently closed for the winter months but are set to re-open this May.
It’s important to remember that access to the base of this beautiful waterfall is prohibited for your safety.
Luckily, there’s plenty of spots to sit and enjoy a top-down view of this natural wonder instead.
So, if you’re looking for sweet spring date ideas or simply need to satisfy your wanderlust after a long winter, this place is totally worth checking out.
You’ll fall in love with it, we’re sure.
