Ontario's Secret Persian Dessert Has Been Hiding From The Rest Of Canada & It's Delicious

These days, you can get pretty much any food you desire anywhere. Whether its a dish from a different culture or a specially-flavoured item, you can probably manage to find it nearby! Once in a while, however, you'll come across a secret little gem that no one else seems to know about. Tucked away in this Northern Ontario city is a special food item that you won't be able to find anywhere else. Ontario's secret Persian dessert is only available in Thunder Bay, and it's worth the trip!

The sweet bun, called the Persian, has become somewhat of a legendary treat in the city. It consists of a cinnamon bun topped with a secret pink icing. You'll have to try it for yourself to find out what flavour this rosy topping is! Stuck somewhere between a donut and a cinnamon roll, this sweet treat has become a must-try for tourists and passers-through.

According to a TVO article, the Thunder Bay Persian was invented by a man named Art Bennett, who founded Bennett's Bakery which still sells the desserts to this day. Legend has it that Bennett created the Persian during the 1940's when he was visited by army commander General ‘Black Jack’ Pershing.

The current owners of the bakery still have the secret recipe locked away in an underground safe, making it the ultimate secret food of Ontario.

You can find these unique buns at The Persian Man cafe, run by Bennett's Bakery. Don't pass through Thunder Bay without trying one! You can also get your hands on another exclusive food item in Quebec if you're in the mood for more secret Canadian treats!
