It looks like Ontarians could be stuck in lockdown for another three weeks. It is being reported that Premier Doug Ford will call upon the province's legislature this week to provide an extension to Ontario's state of emergency. This will bring the lockdown into the month of June.

The premier’s office confirmed to Narcity on Monday morning that the state of emergency would be extended until June 2.

Ford is asking for it to remain in place to help the province's ongoing battle against COVID-19.

The premier's office also confirmed that they are still waiting on legislative approval which is expected to come on Tuesday.

According to CTV, this week's legislative meeting will mark the fourth time an emergency session has been held.

MPPs will now be allowed to approve another extension of the emergency orders as well as scrutinize the government on its response to the pandemic.

Ford first declared a state of emergency on March 17, when the province first went into lockdown and all non-essential businesses closed their doors.

Under Ontario's emergency orders, non-essential businesses have been forced to remain close.

However, in the past weeks, the government has allowed multiple establishments to reopen their doors for curbside pickup and delivery.

Ontario also announced this weekend that provincial parks would also be reopening on Monday for those who wish to visit them during the day.

However, camping and overnight stays are still prohibited at this time.

As emergency orders continue to be put in place, Ontario is still urging residents to practice social distancing as the pandemic continues across the province.

According to the Ontario government's website, 308 new cases of COVID-19 were reported as of Monday morning.

This brings the total number of cases across the province to 20,546.
